About Inden Technique
Originating in Koshu (Yamanashi Prefecture) during the Edo period (1603~1868), founding father Uehara Yushichi developed the Inden technique by creating lacquer patterns on deerskin leather. Often using a hand-cut stencil pattern, the lacquer pattern dries as a detailed and shiny texture on deerskin that softens greatly with use.
